Everyone knows the importance of taking their children to regular dental checkups and tooth cleaning so as to prevent any dental problems. However, many children are anxious and stressed about their dental appointments, making the dental visit difficult and unmanageable.
Some children have extremely sensitive teeth, while some others are less tolerant of pain. Besides, children with disabilities or special needs also need extra care and attention during their dental appointments.Â
At Unique Kids Pediatric Dentistry, we offer sedation dentistry to cater to the dental needs of such patients and help them better tolerate the procedure without any dental fear.Â
At Unique Kids Pediatric Dentistry, we use sedation to treat children with a high level of anxiety or with special needs during procedures like fillings, root canals, crowns, extractions, etc. Â
The methods of sedation dentistry we use in our dental clinic are as follows:
Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas is a safe and effective sedation technique that helps decrease stress and anxiety in children and reduce the pain during the procedure. We administer nitrous oxide through a comfortably fitting, flavored nasal mask. Once the nitrous oxide is administered, it helps ease anxiety, but the patient remains awake throughout the dental treatment. Nitrous oxide also helps those children with gag reflexes, thus making dental visits stress-free and comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide sedation wear off soon after the procedure.
Oral sedation is a form of dental sedation that provides a greater effect than nitrous oxide. It is administered as an oral pill or liquid given to the child before the dental treatment starts. Oral sedation can make a child feel drowsy during the procedure, thus relieving them from any stress.
Deep sedation or general anesthesia can benefit those children who are unable to sit still in a dental chair, follow instructions of the dentist, or corporate for treatments either due to age, apprehension level, or other conditions. This type of sedation dentistry is also administered if the child requires to undergo a substantial amount of dental work. General anesthesia can put the child into complete sleep, thus making the dental procedure easy and hassle-free.
At Unique Kids Pediatric Dentistry, we always ensure that we place the safety and well-being of our pediatric patients above anything else. Before the procedure, we will thoroughly examine your child's condition, analyze their requirements, and discuss all sedation options to recommend the best method to treat your child in a safe, relaxed, and comfortable setting.
